Emily Herring and Henpecked
A born and bred Texan, Emily Herring has been playing Hill Country music since she received her first guitar at the age of seven. She spent the past ten years playing music in Portland , OR , before moving back home to get closer to the Texas sound. She currently lives outside of Austin on the San Marcos river, where she is recording a new CD. The new CD will feature Emily Herring on vox, guitar, and dobro; Benjamin Dewey on lap steel; Kip Lindig on bass; and The Breeders' Jose Medeles on drums.
Herring’s first full-length CD, “My Tears Will Be Relieved,” was released in April 2006. Herring’s EP, “The Cat, Beaver, Bee,” caught national radio play after its release in May 2007. Over the past few years she has played spots at the Midpoint Music Festival, The Bite of Oregon, Pride NW, and Folk Alliance, among others. She’s played in venues all over the country during her three US tours, including Howling Wolf’s in New Orleans, the Soul Bar in Augusta, GA, and Luckenbach, Cheatham St. Warehouse, Austin Java, Riley’s Tavern, Trophy’s, and the Carousel Lounge in Austin, TX. During her stay in Oregon, she performed in a number of spots: various Mcmenamin's locales (The Sand Trap, Edgefield, The White Eagle, etc.), The Roseland Theater, and Jubitz Ponderosa Lounge to name a few.
Herring’s music is true Texas Country with a mean Delta feel, an unapologetic alternative to the Nashville sound. Herring is equally a player and a lyricist, and you’ll hear influences of traditional country, Tejano, and southern blues in these original songs. This is hard-hitting-no-frills country, sung with a distinctive country twang.
